I am interested in working with adults and children of all ages and phases of life. I have particular interest in therapeutic applications of Bowen family systems theory, child-centered play therapy, and mind, body, and spirit connections. I also enjoy using alternative mediums of expression and connection, such as paint, sand, nature, and movement.
I am a current Master’s of Social Work student at the University of Iowa. Before starting my Master's program, I earned my B.A. in secondary English education from Iowa State University. I have worked with children and adolescents in many settings, including five years as a teacher in Iowa public schools. I also have experience working in residential psychiatric treatment facilities for children, which involved working directly with clients as they developed treatment goals, engaged in therapeutic groups, and strengthened their regulation skills. In addition to my years of experience with children and adolescents, I have special interest in grief processes, and I have taken classes and trainings on grief work in therapy settings.
In becoming a therapist, I have the privilege to journey with people in their lives. I maintain unconditional positive regard for my clients as well as a nonjudgmental, listening ear. I also strive to create a safe, compassionate environment where clients can explore life's biggest questions. I build my personal clinical practice around my strong foundation of empathy, open-minded attitude, and pension for humor.
