Clinical Training Program

Mind & Spirit Counseling Center is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to fostering the next generation of mental health professionals through our comprehensive Clinical Training Program.

In our 50 years, we have grown to serve 3,000+ individuals annually, including 450+ children. Our services are made available to people from all walks of life, including those who need to access sliding scales or subsidies made possible through our generous donors. We offer a broad range of clinical training program opportunities to help ensure these needs are met.

This training program is an intensive experience for professionals seeking a rigorous education and real-world experience. Each tier of the program includes classroom instruction, clinical supervision, peer consultation, direct service provision to clients and integration into the day-to-day workings of a large mental health clinic addressing a variety of needs.

Learn about the respected history of our Clinical Training Program

The Center founded the Graduate Clinical Training Program in 1980, just eight years after the Center itself was established. The founding leaders knew that to best serve the community, the Center needed to help ensure a steady stream of qualified practitioners by sharing knowledge and cultivating a culture of learning.

Over the years, the Center has earned a reputation as offering a premier training experience for motivated graduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral students entering the mental health field in social work, clinical mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychotherapy, psychology. The Center has successfully prepared more than 120 mental health clinicians over the years, with more than 95% of graduates licensed to practice in Iowa.
